Giving a major relief to Telugu Desam Party’s MLC Narsa Reddy, the Supreme Court has today granted stay on Andhra Pradesh High Court orders which had set aside his election as invalid and declared Venkat Rami Reddy of Congress as elected by a margin of nine votes. While granting stay on the High Court orders, the apex court directed both the candidates to file counter petitions in this regard within next two weeks and adjourned the further hearing on the case for two weeks. The apex court observed that the stay would continue till further orders.
It may be mentioned that the High Court had set aside the election of Narsa Reddy from the local bodies’ constituency of Nizamabad district and declared Venkat Rami Reddy of Congress candidate as elected by a margin of nine votes. Challenging the HC verdict, Narsa Reddy filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
