Banking services remain paralysed for 2nd day

Banking services across Andhra Pradesh were paralyzed for the second day today as majority of the 75,000-odd employees in nationalised bankscontinued to boycott their work as part of the two-day nation-wide strike began yesterday. Normal banking operations including cash transactions, cheque clearances were badly affected. Though the bank managements made advanced arrangement for loading the machines with cash, long queues were witnessed at ATMs to withdraw cash but most of the ATMs running out of cash. The situation was same at the pilgrimage centres like world famous Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumla (Chittoor district) in the state. Sri Vari devotees faced hardship at Tirumala as most of the ATMs were running out of cash. A large number of employees gathered outside the premises of local Head Offices of all nationalised banks shouting slogans in support of their demands for some time after they were addressed by office-bearers of different associations including NationalConfederation of Bank Employees(NCBE) and All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), Andhra Pradesh Bank Employees’ Federation (APBEF) and Bharatiya Mazdoor sangh.
