Congress Lok Sabha MP and Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas Chairman Vundavalli Arun Kumar today requested Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal to take suitable decision for considering Assembly Constituency as a unit instead of whole district for implementation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the by-elections to be held on June 12 in Andhra Pradesh. The by-polls will be held to 18 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seats across the state. In a letter to Mr Bhanwarlal, a copy of which was released to the media here, Mr Kumar said ‘you (CEO) are aware that there is a provision to provide financial assistance from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the destitute and needy patients. ‘But, due to the model code of conduct, the release of financial assitance from the CM’s relief fund had been suspended till June 15.’ Due to this, all cancer, kidney and heart patients, who are undergoing emergency treatment, were facing severe hardships as they were unable to get financial assistance as the whole district was being considered as a unit for the purpose of Model Code of Conduct. Stating several other applications for such relief were also pending, he said a decision from the Chief Electoral Officer in this regard would benefit a large number of patients who were in dire need of financial assistance.
