APSRTC OR up due to crackdown on private buses: Khan

The Occupancy Ratio (OR) of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has gone up to 90-95 per cent in this season in view of plying additional services on long distanceroutes.

The APSRTC has running the additional services of 160-170 a day in view of the series of road accidents involving the private buses, mainly the ghastly bus accident at Osmanabad in the neighbouringMaharashtra state on June 16 which left 30 passengers dead and the crackdown launched by the transport department on the private tourist buses later. The OR is 60-65 per cent earlier and in some services it touched 100 per cent now, APSRTC Managing Director A K Khan said today. Addressing a press conference here, he said the Transport Department had so far impounded 230 buses in the state out of 1,230 as part of the raids and surrendered them in courts.

Mr Khan said the additional night services were being run on Mumbai, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Bangalore routes to meet the increasing demand from the commuters.
