Six engineering students from Telangana , including three girls, were drowned in sea near here on Wednesday in Vishakapatnam. Another student was rescued by local fishermen. One dead body was found few minutes back. He is identified as Bhupati Sushil Babu.
The seven B Tech first-year students of Gitam University went for an outing to the Rushikonda beach on the outskirts of the city and later decided to go for a swim in the sea. They were, however, swept away by high tide. One of them was pulled out by fishermen but others were missing. Marine boats along with Naval and Coast Guard helicopters have been pressed into service to locate the missing students, police said.
The students went to the beach at around 3.30 pm. Sources said they did not venture into the regular beach waters where revellers go but to an isolated area behind a private resort, which is said to be a dangerous spot for swimming. A huge tidal wave took them deep into the sea. Rahul Babu, an IT stream student of Warangal, reached the shores with the help of the fishermen. Six of his friends however went missing. They were identified as Gujjal Preethi Reddy of Warangal, Ramineni Anusha of Kodad in Nalgonda, P Sinduja of Dilsukhnagar and Perumalla Sai Nitin of Habsiguda in Hyderabad, Bhupati Sushil Babu and Anurag Reddy of Karimnagar.
