6 construction labourers buried alive
As many as six construction labourers, including four women, were buried alive and three seriously injured when a huge portion of soil caved in while they were digging the ground for construction of a private school building here today. Four of the victims were killed on the spot and two succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital. About ten labourers were engaged in the work of digging a trench about 30 feet deep to erect a concrete beam of the buldings at fourth lane of donka road, when the mishap occurred. Teared three more persons were feared trapped in the debris, police said. Rescue operations were in full swing at the site.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has instructed the Guntur District Collector to take up immediate rescue and relief measures following the death of six construction workers when earth caved in today. An official release here said, Mr Reddy also instructed the district administration to provide immediate medical assistance to injured and inquire into the incident.
