3 killed, 13 hurt in factory fire
Three labourers were killed and 13 sustained burn injuries in a major fire that broke out in a factory at Shadnagar in Mahabubnagar District of Andhra Pradesh this evening.
According to police, the fire occurred when nearly 20 labourers, most of them migrants from Bihar, were engaged in work. Of the 16 injured,three succumbed to burn injuries and remaining, including eight who suffered over 70 per cent burn injuries, were admitted to Osmania Hospital. Two were admitted to private hospitals here. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and the blaze was brought under control, police said. The condition of four of the eight injured labourers who were undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital was stated to be serious, police added.
In another mishap, massive fire broke out in a storehouse of a chemical plant in Jeedimetla industrial area in Hyderabad.Ten fire tenders battled for over four hours to bring the blaze under control. The flames spread to a nearby building. As a precautionary measure, the police evacuated people from an adjacent residential locality.Eyewitnesses said four chemical tankers exploded in the fire. Several vehicles were also damaged.
