11 candidates file nominations on day one: EC

Election Commissioner of India H S Brahma today said 11 candidates have filed nominations on the first day for the 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats for which the by-elections would be held on June 12. Addressing a press conference after holding video-conference with Collectors and Superintendents of Police of 12 poll bound districts along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal and Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy at Secretariat here, he said the nominations will be picked up from tomorrow.

From Nellore Parliamentary Constituency, Independent candidate Potturi Tulasi das has filed one set of nomination papers. As far as Assembly constituencies are concerned, no nominations had been filed in Parkal, Narasnnapeta, Narasapuram, Polavaram (ST), Prathipadud (SC) Udayagiri, Rajampet, Kodur (SC), Rayachoty, Yemmiganur and Rayadurg Assembly constituencies. For Payakaraopet (SC) assembly constituency, Chengala Venkata Rao and Chengala Pushpa of Telugu Desam Party had filed 2 sets each of nominations, for Ramachandrapuram, INC candidate Thota Thrimurthulu has filed two sets of nominations. In Macherla Constituency, Ramakrishna Reddy Pinnelli of YSR Congress Party had filed one set of papers, in Ongole Magunta Parvathamma and Magunta Vijaya Reddy of Indian National Congress had filed two sets each of nomination papers. In Allagadda, TDP candidate Rama Pulla Reddy Erigela has filed two sets of nominations, in Anantapur Urban YSR Congress Candidate Bodimalla Gurunatha Reddy filed one set of papers while in Tirupati YSR Congress Party candidate Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has filed one set of papers while BJP candidate Jally madhusudhan has filed two sets of nominations. Mr Brahma said the by-election will be a ‘quite tough competition, close contest and close fight between the political parties.’
